This week’s wine tasting (Thursday, February 5th; 5:30-7:30) will feature a selection of six wines from Mendoza, Argentina. Mendoza is the most important wine-producing province in Argentina. It is located within the region of Cuyo and represents more than 80% of the country’s wine production. Malbec is the most important grape variety that is grown in Argentina.
For the tasting we will sample one white and three reds from Parados, a winery that is brand-new to the market and excellently priced at $8.99 for the tasting. In addition, we will feature a Malbec and a Cabernet Sauvignon from two different Mendoza wineries, Alto Cedro and Legado (another winery that’s new to the market).
Good Value Spanish Wines
January 28th, 2009 This week’s wine tasting (Thursday, January 29th, 5:30-7:30) features an outstanding selection of good value Spanish wines. We will sample six wines total, two whites and three reds, all from different regions throughout Spain. The whites are light and refreshing, while the reds vary from soft and fruity to big and bold. Spain is a region that produces a vast amount of wine; much of it is made from the country’s prized red grape, Tempranillo. We will sample three reds tomorrow night that are Tempranillo-based.
Rosenthal Wine Merchant Tasting
January 26th, 2009 Tomorrow night, Tuesday, January 27th from 5:30-7:30, we will host a Special Tasting Event featuring wines of importer Rosenthal Wine Merchant and welcome Regional Sales Manager Trey Stephenson. We’ll be pouring a selection of two white and two red Burgundies as well as two reds from the Northern Rhone Valley. The wines are from renowned appellations including Pouilly Fuisse, Chassagne Montrachet, Volnay, Gevrey Chambertin, Cote Rotie, and Cornas. All of the wines are produced from single-vineyards and some are from Premier Cru (or 1er Cru) sites.
The cost for the tasting is $10/person (non-refundable). Because these are ageworthy wines we will be tasting from our Stolzle stemware and serving larger-than-normal pours; we ask that you please sample each wine only once.
Six Wines from California and Washington
January 21st, 2009 This week’s wine tasting (Thursday, January 22nd; 5:30-7:30) will feature a selection of six wines from California and Washington State. We’ll be tasting two whites and four reds altogether, each from a different winery, although some of these wines are perennial favorites around here and no doubt will be familiar labels to some of you. The “new” part about these wines is the vintage (or in the case of the Marietta Old Vines Red, the lot number), so there’s a good opportunity to sample some items from the current vintages that we’ll all being drinking from for the next several months.

A Selection of California Wines
January 14th, 2009 This week’s wine tasting (Thursday, January 15th; 5:30-7:30) will feature a selection of California wines from two different producers, Bliss Family Winery and Lot 205 Winery. In light of the fact that tomorrow might end up being the coldest day of this whole year, we thought it would be appropriate to taste some rich, full-bodied reds, so the tasting will showcase five reds and one white, all of which are very reasonably priced.
